Spousal Open Work Permit Eligibility in 2026: Study Programs, TEER Categories, and the Final-Term Rule
Since January 21, 2025, IRCC limits spousal open work permits to partners of students in 16-month-plus master's, doctoral and select professional programs, and of workers in TEER 0/1 or designated TEER 2/3 occupations. Since March 4, 2026, applications made while the student is in their final term are refused, including extensions.
